Comelec Chair: PBBM Expected to Sign Bill Postponing 2025 BSKE

Manila: Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairperson George Garcia announced that President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. is expected to sign the measure postponing the December 1 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) "very soon". "Any moment from now, the President could sign the law because the Palace has not given any indication that it will be vetoed by the President or that it will not be signed," Garcia stated in an online interview.

According to Philippines News Agency, once approved, the holding of BSKE will be moved to the first Monday of November 2026. Garcia assured that they are ready for the decision of the President.

In case the village and youth elections would be postponed, Garcia mentioned that the poll body would have more time to prepare after the Bangsamoro Parliamentary Elections (BPE) on October 1. He emphasized that the quality of preparations would be compromised with only a month between the two elections. However, if postponed, they will be better prepared for the BSKE.
