Manila: The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has expressed confidence in achieving its goal of registering one million new voters by the conclusion of the 10-day registration period, which commenced on Friday.
According to Philippines News Agency, Comelec Chairperson George Garcia highlighted a positive public response on the initial day of the registration period. "There are so many people at the Luneta registration site now. There are also so many registrants in the UE site, as well as in different parts of the country," he stated.
Garcia expressed optimism about reaching the target of one million new voters within the 10-day timeframe. He emphasized the importance of setting up additional satellite registration sites to meet the target despite the limited registration period. "We are bringing the voter registration activities closer to them," he said.
In addition to registering new voters, Comelec is also processing applications for changes in name and status, correction of entries, reactivation of registration records, inclusion and reinstatement of registration records, and updating records for persons with disabilities, senior citizens, and members of Indigenous Peoples' and Indigenous Cultural Communities. The poll body is also managing the transfer of registration from overseas to local.
Applications are to be submitted to the Offices of Election Officers in cities and municipalities, as well as at satellite registration sites.
