Manila: The Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Manila has formally proclaimed Bienvenido "Benny" Abante Jr. as the duly-elected representative of Manila's 6th District following the May 2025 national and local elections.
According to Philippines News Agency, the proclamation took place at the Office of Election Officer in Arroceros, Ermita, after the Comelec en banc issued a certificate of finality and entry of judgment on the disqualification of Luis Chua Uy. Uy's motion for reconsideration was dismissed by the Comelec due to his failure to prove allegations of not being a natural-born citizen.
Following his official proclamation, Abante urged for unity and service, emphasizing the importance of overcoming partisanship to better serve the residents of the district. In a social media post, he stated, "It is time to set aside partisanship for the sake of our people -- to restore focus and work together to deliver the services, opportunities, and justice our constituents deserve."
Abante reiterated his commitment to public service, highlighting the need for humility, compassion, and integrity in addressing the needs of his constituents. "I have always believed that public service must rise above politics, and today, we recommit ourselves to serving our kababayan (compatriots) with humility, compassion, and integrity. Panahon na para tumutok sa taumbayan, para tugunan ang kanilang pangangailangan (It is time to focus on the people and address their needs),' he added.
