Bacolod: The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-Negros Occidental has activated the Provincial Consumer Network (ConsumerNet) to strengthen inter-agency coordination in handling consumer complaints. Provincial Director Lynna Joy Cardinal stated that while the DTI is often the primary agency for consumer concerns, directing complaints to the appropriate agencies is necessary for swift and proper resolution.
According to Philippines News Agency, the DTI recognizes that many issues fall under the jurisdiction of partner agencies, which is why ConsumerNet was established. This network aims to bridge gaps, accelerate referrals, and enhance consumer protection effectively. Cardinal emphasized that ConsumerNet is a collaborative platform focusing on advocacy, monitoring, and complaints handling.
During a meeting at the Park Inn by Radisson, the DTI introduced ConsumerNet, highlighting the roles of the DTI-Negros Occidental Consumer Protection Unit, Land Transportation Office-Western Visayas Regional Operations Division, Philippine National Police Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit-Negros Island Region, and the National Commission of Senior Citizens-Western Visayas. The discussions reinforced the need for streamlined referrals and shared responsibilities in addressing consumer grievances.
"Consumer protection is everybody's concern. This network is more than a meeting -it's a movement. Together, we ensure every consumer voice is heard and every concern is addressed," Cardinal stated. The gathering included representatives from various government offices, such as the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, Bacolod City Treasurer's Office, and several departments including Health, Education, Agriculture, and more.
Participants also included representatives from the Bureau of Internal Revenue, Securities and Exchange Commission, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, Bureau of Fire Protection, Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines, Office of Senior Affairs, and Persons with Disability Affairs Office.
