Manila: The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has announced its readiness to accept public requests for satellite voters' registration in various areas. In a move aimed at facilitating voter registration, Comelec's Resolution No. 11177 allows the public to propose locations for these registration activities.
According to Philippines News Agency, the resolution specifies that interested parties can request the conduct of satellite registration, which is in addition to the mandatory establishment of such facilities. These requests are subject to evaluation and approval by poll officials and the Provincial Election Supervisor, with final approval resting with the Comelec en banc.
The resolution outlines that satellite registration activities are contingent on attracting a minimum number of prospective applicants-200 in urban areas and 50 in more remote locations. These activities are to be conducted in venues not owned or occupied by incumbent officials or their close relatives, ensuring neutrality and fairness.
Comelec has also stipulated that these activities should not incur additional costs to the Commission. Election Officers are tasked with assessing and recommending actions on requests to the Provincial Election Supervisor.
Throughout the voters' registration period, all Offices of Election Officer (OEOs) must conduct satellite registration within each barangay of the city, district, or municipality. Approved venues include barangay halls, schools, malls, and other accessible public spaces.
The voters' registration for the November 2026 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections resumed on October 20, 2023, and will continue until May 18, 2026.
