Manila: The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is planning to conduct another round of voter registration across the nation during the third quarter of this year, following the May 12 midterm elections. Comelec Chairperson George Garcia announced on Wednesday that they aim to resume voter registration activities in either July or August, ahead of the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) scheduled for December.

According to Philippines News Agency, Garcia mentioned during a weekly forum in Manila that the goal is to hold a 10-day voter registration period nationwide, around July or August. He noted that due to the limited registration period, they anticipate registering approximately 1 million to 1.2 million new voters.

The last voter registration conducted by Comelec occurred from February 12 to September 30, 2024. Presently, there are 68,431,965 registered voters for the upcoming elections. Garcia pointed out that the new voter registrants would not be eligible to participate in the Bangsamoro Parliamentary Elections set for October 2025. He explained that voter registration involves more than just the act of registering, citing processes like Election Registration Board hearings, which may not be feasible in the available timeframe.
