Romblon: The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has expanded voter registration access in the Mimaropa region by conducting a Special Satellite Registration at the Romblon District Jail, enlisting a total of 77 new voters.

According to Philippines News Agency, the registration drive included 74 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) and three jail personnel. This initiative is part of Comelec's efforts to reach marginalized and hard-to-access sectors, enabling their participation in the electoral process.

The registration was conducted in coordination with jail authorities, led by acting Jail Warden, Jail Senior Insp. Emely Mallen. The activity was carried out in an orderly and secure manner, highlighting the government's commitment to inclusive governance and safeguarding the voting rights of all eligible citizens, including those in custodial settings.

Jail Officer 3 Joefrie Anglo, the spokesperson for Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) 4-B (Mimaropa), emphasized the importance of such initiatives in ensuring that no sector is left behind in the democratic process. He noted that the opportunity to register positively impacts PDLs' morale, reinforcing their sense of dignity and belonging.

Anglo remarked, "This reminds them that they remain part of society and still have a voice in the country's future."

BJMP 4-B reiterated its support for Comelec's programs, emphasizing that civic participation plays a vital role in the rehabilitation and reintegration of PDLs into mainstream society. The activity concluded smoothly, underscoring the strong partnership between Comelec and the BJMP in advancing accessible, secure, and inclusive electoral services across the Mimaropa region.
