Tacloban: The Department of Justice (DOJ) on Tuesday said local prosecutors have recommended the filing of criminal charges against the female police officer whose service firearm was used by one of the minor suspects in the Tacloban school shooting last June.
According to Philippines News Agency, DOJ spokesperson Polo Martinez stated that on August 20, the Office of the City Prosecutor of Tacloban City decided to recommend filing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide and physical injuries against Police S/Sgt. Arla Ray Pacencia. The charges are set to be filed with the Family Court, Regional Trial Court of Tacloban City.
Martinez elaborated that this recommendation is based on the preliminary investigation of the complaint filed by parents and students from San Jose National High School. The incident, which occurred on June 22, involved a shooting spree by two minors, including Pacencia's nephew, resulting in the deaths of three students and injuries to 20 others. The handguns used in the incident included one that belonged to Pacencia.
