Cordillera DRR Body Urges Reassessment of Evacuation Hubs, Landslide Areas

Baguio city: The Cordillera Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) has called on local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) offices to promptly reassess evacuation centers and areas prone to landslides to ensure public safety amid ongoing heavy rains from recent weather disturbances.

According to Philippines News Agency, Albert Mogol, CDRRMC chair and regional director of the Office of Civil Defense (OCD), emphasized the need for evacuation centers to be evaluated not only in terms of logistics and comfort but more crucially for their safety against potential hazards such as landslides, flooding, or structural damage. Mogol stated, "We must ensure evacuation centers remain safe for displaced residents, especially with the continuing rains from 'Crising,' 'Dante,' 'Emong,' and the enhanced southwest monsoon," during a phone interview.

The advisory was reinforced through Memorandum 104-2025, which was issued following an online emergency meeting with regional disaster personnel. Mogol further instructed local DRRM offices to revisit areas impacted by landslides during Severe Tropical Storm Crising to assess current conditions and inform future decisions.

PAGASA has reported significant rainfall, ranging from 100 to 200 millimeters, across Baguio City and Benguet, raising concerns about soil saturation, landslides, and rockslides in areas susceptible to such events.
