Baguio city: The Cordillera Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) on Friday ordered the suspension of all small-scale mining and trekking activities as the region braces for the possible impact of Super Typhoon Uwan (international name Fung-wong). CDRRMC chair and Office of Civil Defense (OCD) regional director Albert Mogol emphasized the importance of compliance by local DRRM councils, highlighting the forecast that northern Luzon is likely to be affected by the typhoon. Mogol urged the public to avoid unnecessary travel and announced the possibility of class and work suspensions if needed.
According to Philippines News Agency, the Mines and Geosciences Bureau-Cordillera advised residents to avoid mining tunnels during storms due to the increased risk of landslides and flooding. Local DRRM officers have been directed to conduct preemptive or forced evacuations in high-risk areas to ensure safety.
DSWD-Cordillera Director Maria Aplaten confirmed that response clusters are prepared and encouraged families to gather emergency supplies, including flashlights, clean water, and medicines. In Baguio City, Mayor Benjamin Magalong instructed barangays to remove hazardous trees and temporarily suspended garbage collection to prevent waterway blockages. He assured the public of the city's readiness and advised residents to contact 911 for emergencies.
Baguio Water District General Manager Engr. Salvador Royeca recommended that households store potable water sufficient for three to five days in anticipation of possible disruptions from water turbidity or facility damage. In La Trinidad, Benguet, Mayor Roderick Awingan suspended government work on Friday afternoon and canceled events scheduled for November 10 and 11. He also organized a municipal-wide 'binnadang' (community cleanup) on Saturday, involving all 16 barangays in clearing canals and waterways.
Meanwhile, in Bontoc, Mountain Province, MDRRM Officer Johanna Padaen reported that response teams, relief goods, and medical supplies have been strategically positioned as the municipality works closely with barangay DRRMs for efficient response measures.
