Manila: The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) has announced that its key shelter agencies will implement a moratorium on housing amortization payments. This decision aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s recent declaration of a state of national calamity.

According to Philippines News Agency, DHSUD Secretary Jose Ramon Aliling has instructed the Home Development Mutual (Pag-IBIG) Fund, National Housing Authority, Social Housing Finance Corporation, and National Home Mortgage Finance Corporation to immediately enforce the moratorium. This initiative aims to alleviate the financial burden on Filipinos affected by the recent typhoons and forms part of DHSUD's efforts to contribute to the government's disaster response activities.

President Marcos declared a state of national calamity on Thursday following the widespread destruction caused by Typhoon Tino in parts of the Visayas and Mindanao. In addition, Severe Tropical Storm Uwan poses a new threat as it approaches the region.

As part of the disaster response, the DHSUD has provided temporary shelter to impacted families in Cebu, utilizing modular housing units located at the Bayanihan Village in San Remigio. The department also announced that its regional shelter clusters have been activated in anticipation of the tropical cyclone, ensuring preparedness and coordination with other agencies.
