Legazpi city: Families affected by Severe Tropical Storm Crising (international name Wipha) and the southwest monsoon have received government aid amounting to PHP958,804 worth of relief items through the Department of Social Welfare and Development in Bicol (DSWD-5). Local government units and the Philippine Coast Guard collaborated to provide hot meals to individuals stranded in ports and land transport stations.
According to Philippines News Agency, DSWD-5 Director Norman Laurio reported that the agency has stockpiles and standby funds amounting to PHP271 million ready for distribution to affected areas in the region. The DSWD provided a total of PHP920,314.05 worth of food and non-food items, distributing about 483 family food packs to residents in 17 barangays, including Bagasbas, Awitan, San Isidro, and Mambalite, which were some of the hardest-hit areas.
The latest report indicated that a total of 3,966 families, comprising 18,160 individuals, were affected across 56 barangays in Albay, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, and Masbate. Approximately 21 families, or 34 individuals, are currently taking shelter in Camarines Sur, and at least four houses sustained damage due to the storm.
