Manila: The Civil Service Commission (CSC) is set to recognize this year's most exemplary public servants under the Gawad Lingkod Bayani, a renewed honor awards program celebrating the unwavering dedication, integrity, and impact of government workers across the country.
According to Philippines News Agency, the program, formerly known as the Search for Outstanding Government Workers, was renamed to evoke deeper national pride and to honor civil servants whose work embodies sacrifice, service, and excellence. CSC Chairperson Marilyn Yap stated that the Filipino term 'Lingkod Bayani' is more than just an award; it sets a standard for public service. 'We want to celebrate those who serve selflessly and challenge others to rise to the same level of public service,' Yap said.
This initiative is part of the Honor Awards Program (HAP), a core component of the government's rewards and incentives system. This year, a total of 202 regional winners were selected by the CSC's Regional Committees on Awards. They will advance to the national selection phase handled by the National Committees on Awards.
The Gawad Lingkod Bayani features three prestigious honor awards. The Gawad Lingkod Bayan ng Pangulo recognizes government workers who have made exceptional contributions with nationwide impact, particularly in areas of public interest, security, and national patrimony, as per Executive Order 588, s. 1992. The Gawad Dangal ng Bayan is conferred on individuals who have demonstrated extraordinary acts of public service and consistent ethical conduct in accordance with Republic Act 6713, known as the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees. The Gawad Pagasa is awarded to an individual or group whose outstanding contributions have directly benefited more than one government department, as outlined under EO 292, s. 1987.
Yap noted that the transition to a Filipino name reflects the CSC's campaign-'Puso, Dangal, at Galing Para sa Bayan'-a call to uphold the highest standards of service, ethics, and professionalism in the public sector. The national awardees will be honored later this year in formal ceremonies as part of the CSC's 125th Philippine Civil Service Anniversary celebrations.
