DA Advises Precautionary Measures as Tropical Depression Isang Approaches

Manila: The Department of Agriculture's Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DA-DRRM) Operations Center has issued a critical advisory for farmers and fishers to prepare for the potential impacts of Tropical Depression Isang. The alert follows Isang's landfall in Casiguran, Aurora, which prompted the weather bureau to issue Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 1 for certain areas of Luzon.

According to Philippines News Agency, the DA-DRRM has recommended several precautionary actions to mitigate damage. Farmers are urged to expedite the harvest of mature crops, safeguard seeds and planting materials, relocate machinery and tools to elevated locations, and ensure irrigation and drainage systems are clear to prevent flooding.

The advisory also includes guidance for livestock raisers, advising them to identify potential relocation sites and secure adequate feed and water supplies. Fishers have been cautioned to either delay sea expeditions or plan meticulously based on local fishing advisories due to anticipated coastal hazards.

The DA-DRRM emphasized the need for securing fish cages, ponds, and stocks, recommending early harvests if necessary. Additionally, it advised moving fishing vessels to higher ground to avoid damage from potential flooding.
