Osaka: Daihatsu Motor Co. has announced the launch of a new electric wheelchair aimed at providing mobility solutions for the elderly. The e-Sneaker, which was officially put on sale on Monday, has already seen trial use at the World Exposition currently taking place in Osaka.
According to Philippines News Agency, the e-Sneaker can reach speeds of up to six kilometers per hour and has a range of 12 kilometers on a single charge. Importantly, no driver's license is required to operate this vehicle, making it accessible for its intended users. The wheelchair's high seating position offers a vantage point similar to that of a bicycle, which enhances both visibility and safety for the users.
The e-Sneaker also features a speed control function that automatically reduces speed on slopes or during turns to ensure user safety. Its large-diameter pneumatic tires enable it to navigate steps up to 7.5 centimeters high. The suggested retail price for the e-Sneaker starts at 418,000 yen, and Daihatsu aims to sell 500 units annually, targeting active seniors who enjoy participating in work and hobbies.
Daihatsu President Masahiro Inoue expressed that the development of the e-Sneaker was driven by the need to offer a reliable transportation option for elderly individuals who may feel anxious about their mobility.
