PSA Taps 980 Households in Negros Occidental for National Migration Survey

Bacolod city: The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) in Negros Occidental has identified 980 households to participate in the 2025 National Migration Survey (NMS), with the selection process concluding on September 5. The initiative aims to gather comprehensive data on migration patterns within the Philippines.

According to Philippines News Agency, PSA-Negros Occidental officer-in-charge Diesah Biaoco announced on Tuesday that the survey involves 491 sample households from Negros Occidental and an additional 489 from Bacolod City. These households are being interviewed by PSA-appointed statistical researchers and supervisors, who are deployed across various areas in the province and city.

The interviewing team consists of 14 personnel, including two team supervisors and 12 statistical researchers. Biaoco emphasized the importance of confidentiality, stating that all survey personnel are required to maintain strict confidentiality regarding any information obtained during the survey, ensuring that details related to households or individuals are kept private.

The 2025 NMS encompasses a national sample of approximately 45,000 housing units, selected from the PSA's 2023 geo-enabled master sample for household-based surveys. This extensive sampling is intended to provide reliable migration estimates at both national and regional levels. The survey seeks to gather baseline information on internal and international migration, aiming to estimate migration flows, examine various migration types, and understand the characteristics of migrants.

The findings from the survey are expected to offer valuable insights into the mobility of the Philippine population, aiding policymakers and program managers in developing strategies to enhance services and support for individuals moving within the country or abroad. This survey marks the second iteration of the NMS, following its initial implementation in May 2018. The PSA Board, through Resolution No. 16, approved the conduct of the NMS every ten years starting in 2025.
