Mawab: The municipal government of Mawab, Davao de Oro has launched the 2026 Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES), providing qualified youth with an opportunity to earn income and gain work experience.
According to Philippines News Agency, the program will run from April 20 to June 2, offering temporary employment to students who meet the specified requirements. SPES aims to support education by providing 20 to 52 days of work. The salaries for the participants will be covered jointly by the local government unit (LGU) and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), with the LGU contributing 40 percent and DOLE covering the remaining 60 percent.
In a statement, Mayor Myrill Apit urged students to participate, emphasizing the LGU's dedication to assisting the youth, particularly those from financially disadvantaged families. Apit highlighted that the initiative is designed to help students prepare for the upcoming school year.
Eligibility criteria for applicants include being senior high school students or incoming college students who are bona fide residents of Mawab. They must maintain a general weighted average (GWA) of at least 80 percent without any failing grades. Additionally, applicants should not be beneficiaries of any government scholarship and must belong to indigent families with a combined annual net income not exceeding PHP189,128.
Mayor Apit encouraged students to spread the word about the program, urging them to inform classmates and friends to maximize the program's reach and benefits. The necessary documents for application include a photocopy of the Form 138 report card, a Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) birth certificate, an updated resum©, a certificate of indigency, a completed SPES application form, and an application letter addressed to the mayor's office.
The selected students will gain work experience by being assigned to tasks at the municipal hall, with Mayor Apit reiterating the municipality's commitment to providing opportunities that empower students and prepare them for their future.
