Mandaluyong city: Prices of basic and prime commodities monitored by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) will remain unchanged until April 30, Trade Secretary Ma. Cristina Roque announced Wednesday.

According to Philippines News Agency, Roque made the announcement during the opening of the DTI-Bagong Pilipinas National Food Fair at SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City. She emphasized that she and Secretary Kiko of the Department of Agriculture have been actively visiting markets and supermarkets to ensure stable food supply and pricing. The extension adds two weeks to the previously announced date of April 16, following discussions with manufacturers.

Roque assured the public that the government is closely monitoring prices and supply amid rising fuel costs linked to tensions in the Middle East. She mentioned that regular meetings with manufacturers, retailers, and logistics firms are ongoing to safeguard both businesses and consumers.

During a market inspection at a mall supermarket, Roque observed that some goods were even priced below the suggested retail price (SRP). She noted that DTI personnel continue to conduct regular price checks to ensure compliance, a practice that has been ongoing even before the Middle East conflict.

Roque also highlighted the government's commitment to supporting micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) through trade fairs and expanded access to global markets. She stated that the national food fair serves as proof that with the right support, Filipino MSMEs can thrive both locally and globally.

She cited a record export growth of 15.4 percent in 2025, with continued expansion in early 2026, indicating ample opportunities for Filipino products in the global market. Roque urged continued support for MSMEs, emphasizing the determination reflected in their performance numbers.
