Davao Police Eye New Strategies Against Illegal Drugs

Davao city: Davao City Police Office (DCPO) acting Director, Col. Mannan Muarip, bared on Friday a new strategy to reevaluate and fortify efforts against illegal drugs. During a recent high-level strategic meeting with various government intelligence operatives, Muarip said law enforcement agencies agreed to recalibrate anti-illegal drug strategies - one of the four core directives of the Philippine National Police (PNP) - by concentrating on the urgent need to dismantle drug networks that fuel crime, violence, and social decay.

According to Philippines News Agency, Muarip highlighted the role of public information campaigns and community engagement in the success of anti-drug interventions. He also emphasized that the fight against illegal drugs is not solely fought with weapons and warrants, but is also won by shaping public perception, raising awareness, and enforcing strict operational discipline. 'Changing the narrative and influencing the public mindset are powerful tools in dismantling the grip of drug syndicates,' Muarip said.

He reminded operatives that every task is a responsibility to the community and nation, not just a tactical mission. 'We are the first line of defense. Any officer who turns from protector to predator - by using or dealing illegal drugs - will be held accountable and face the full weight of the law,' Muarip warned.

The recent strategic dialogue, he said, signals a renewed call to action under the PNP's 'Ligtas na Pamayanan' (Safe Community) framework, highlighting improved intelligence efforts, operational integrity, and community trust-building.
