Davao Region Earthquakes Impact Over 1.2 Million Residents: DSWD-11 Update

Davao: Over 1.2 million individuals have been affected across the Davao Region by the recent Magnitude 7.4 and 6.8 earthquakes that jolted Davao Oriental and surrounding provinces, according to a comprehensive update released by the Department of Social Welfare and Development in Davao Region (DSWD-11).

According to Philippines News Agency, as of Oct. 19, DSWD-11 reported that a total of 1,204,148 individuals, representing 275,649 families across 452 barangays in 32 cities and municipalities, have been impacted by the strong tremors.

The hardest-hit provinces include Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro, and Davao del Norte, prompting the swift mobilization of relief efforts.

Damage assessments showed that 1,176 houses were totally damaged and 22,839 partially destroyed.

DSWD-11 noted that 679 families (2,260 persons) are currently housed in evacuation centers, while 52 families (192 persons) are staying with relatives or in temporary shelters outside formal sites.

Despite the scale of the disaster, the agency assured the public that resources remain sufficient. A total of PHP116 million in standby funds and relief items remain available.

To date, DSWD-11 has provided PHP72.6 million in assistance to affected communities, underscoring its commitment to rapid response and recovery.
