Davao: The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) is coordinating with other national government agencies to facilitate necessary emergency assistance to individuals affected by the magnitude 7.4 offshore earthquake in Davao Oriental on Friday. Secretary Amenah Pangandaman said the DBM will continue to monitor the situation and respond accordingly. The tremor hit Manay town at 9:43 a.m. A tsunami threat was issued but lifted at 1:43 p.m.
According to Philippines News Agency, Secretary Pangandaman emphasized that the DBM, under the directive of President Bongbong Marcos, is committed to ensuring that the government releases sufficient and necessary assistance during emergencies or calamities. This aims to ensure uninterrupted services from frontline agencies involved in relief and recovery efforts. She instructed all DBM offices to get in touch with the Department of Health, Department of Social Welfare and Development, and Office of Civil Defense to identify how to extend support to the response efforts.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology raised another tsunami alert at 7:12 p.m. following a magnitude 6.8 aftershock. Residents in the coastal areas of Surigao del Sur, Davao Oriental, and Surigao del Norte were ordered to evacuate to higher grounds.
Reports citing Davao Oriental Governor Nelson Dayanghirang confirmed that at least three individuals were killed in Mati City. Local authorities also monitored destruction of houses, bridges, and other structures.
