Manila: The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) will not release funds for flood control projects that lack the required documentation, Malaca±ang stated on Friday. This announcement follows a call from House Deputy Speaker Ronaldo Puno for an investigation into the funders or sponsors of questionable and non-existent construction projects in the 2025 national budget, including the role of the DBM in the release and withholding of funds.
According to Philippines News Agency, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro, during a press briefing, affirmed that the DBM is currently evaluating the process and timing of fund releases. She emphasized that without a Special Allotment Release Order (SARO) and proof of compliance with all requirements, the DBM will not disburse funds. Castro underscored that the Palace upholds the legislative process, acknowledging that it is the lawmakers' duty to probe into suspect projects.
Castro also highlighted President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s call for a unified approach to combating corruption. Amid efforts to enhance transparency and accountability in public service, especially concerning flood control and other government projects, Castro reiterated the President's desire for collective action. She emphasized that stopping corruption requires cooperation not only from the government but also from citizens who are aware of irregularities in their surroundings.
She urged citizens to report such incidents directly to President Marcos Jr., reinforcing the administration's commitment to addressing and curbing corruption in government initiatives.
