Death Toll in Lanao del Sur Landslide Increases to Six

Malabang: Another landslide victim in Lanao del Sur was discovered floating in a river in Malabang town on Friday afternoon, raising the death toll from the pre-dawn landslide in Calanogas town to six, police reported on Saturday. Capt. Steffi Salanguit, spokesperson for the Police Regional Office in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region, confirmed the recovery of the remains of a woman, identified only as "Nur" from Barangay Ngingir, Calanogas, from a river in Sitio Malade, Barangay Pialot, at 4:45 p.m.

According to Philippines News Agency, the victim is believed to have been swept away from Calanogas, where the landslide occurred before dawn on Friday, resulting in five deaths and six missing persons. Malabang town is located 14 kilometers from Calanogas town. Salanguit stated that she was likely carried by the floodwaters caused by Typhoon Inday from Calanogas to the nearby Malabang town. Relatives of the victim promptly claimed her remains.

Meanwhile, Muhammad Abutazil, head of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) Rapid Emergency Action on Disaster Incidence, announced that search operations for the five missing villagers are ongoing in Calanogas. The BARMM Ministry of Social Services and Development (MSSD) reported that as of Saturday morning, the typhoon has impacted 18,058 families or 90,140 individuals across 82 villages in 15 municipalities within the provinces of Maguindanao del Norte, Maguindanao del Sur, and Lanao del Sur. In a statement, the MSSD noted that assessment, relief operations, and social intervention efforts continue in the affected communities.
