Tashkent: Albert Ian Delos Santos displayed his brilliant form at the Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships, winning three gold medals for Team Philippines in Tashkent, Uzbekistan on Wednesday. The Zamboanga City pride lifted 141kg (snatch) and 180kg (clean and jerk), for a total of 321kg in the Junior men's 70kg division, on his 20th birthday.
According to Philippines News Agency, Delos Santos, son of former national athletes Alvin and Diwa, also set new Junior Asian and World records in the clean and jerk, and in total. Zamboanga City Mayor Khymer Olaso congratulated Delos Santos for his performance. "As your city mayor, I am very, very proud of you... since I met you in Thailand last year and until now, you continuously show and perform really well for our country and Zamboanga City," Olaso said in his Facebook post. "Rest assured that I am always here supporting you all the time. God bless you and your team always. More power."
Meanwhile, Rosalinda Faustino contributed to the country's medal haul with two bronzes (clean and jerk, and total) in the Junior women's 57kg division. The Philippines now has 31 medals (16 golds, six silvers, and nine bronzes) after four days of competition. The other medalists are Jhodie Peralta (3 golds, 2 silvers), Alexsandra Ann Diaz (3 golds, 2 bronzes), Jerick Icon Castro (3 golds), Kirby Kent Alas-as (2 bronzes), Prince Keil Delos Santos (1 gold, 2 bronzes), Angeline Colonia (1 gold, 2 silvers), Althea Bacaro (2 golds), and Jay-r Colonia (2 silvers, 1 bronze).
