Bataan: The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) has formalized a multi-sector partnership to rehabilitate 30 hectares of degraded upland forest in Sitio Daing, Barangay Duale, Limay, Bataan.

According to Philippines News Agency, the initiative brings together the DENR, the Provincial Government of Bataan, the Municipality of Limay, Petron Foundation Inc., and the Samahang Magsasaka sa Kagubatan Limay Bataan, Inc. (SAMASAKA) to accelerate forest restoration while providing sustainable livelihood opportunities for local communities. This marked the official launch of the five-year Puno ng Buhay-Limay Reforestation Project.

Aligned with DENR's mandate under Executive Order No. 192, the project supports the National Greening Program by rehabilitating denuded forestlands, protecting vital watersheds, and contributing to climate action through forest restoration and carbon sequestration. DENR Secretary Rafael Lotilla said the project's success depends on the collective commitment of government agencies, the private sector, and community organizations to deliver measurable results.

The reforestation site falls within SAMASAKA's Community-Based Forest Management area and will be implemented through a community-led approach, with plans to plant native and fruit-bearing trees, bamboo, and timber species to enhance biodiversity and ecosystem resilience. Petron general manager and chairperson Lubin Nepomoceno said the project is expected to improve groundwater recharge and bring long-term benefits to local communities, adding that the partnership reflects Petron's sustained commitment to environmental stewardship in Bataan.

Upon completion, all rehabilitated areas and improvements will be formally turned over to the DENR to ensure continued protection and management of the restored forestland.
