Manila: The Department of Education (DepEd) has announced the allocation of PHP1.35 billion to bolster preparedness and ensure the continuity of education in the face of natural disasters. This strategic move aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s directive to protect the well-being of learners and educators while upholding the quality of education nationwide.
According to Philippines News Agency, the initiative underscores DepEd's commitment to maintaining education as a priority, even during challenging times. 'We want to make sure that, despite typhoons, flooding, or earthquakes, our learners will have learning materials to hold onto. Education must be the last to stop and the first to recover,' stated DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara.
The significant allocation will be directed towards the printing, delivery, and training related to Learning Packets and Dynamic Learning Program (DLP) materials. Specifically, PHP950 million is designated for the printing and distribution of Learning Packets for students from Grades 1 to 12, ensuring each learner receives one packet. These packets include 25 to 50 self-paced activities focusing on literacy, numeracy, problem-solving skills, and advanced learning topics.
Furthermore, PHP399 million is earmarked for the development of DLP materials, which offer structured and activity-based lessons. Students are encouraged to use separate paper and notebooks for engaging with DLP sheets. Angara emphasized the necessity for disaster-resilient educational measures across schools nationwide.
In addition to these efforts, DepEd highlights the importance of collaborating closely with local government units to implement alternative delivery modes during suspensions of face-to-face classes. The department's proactive measures aim to provide hope and direction to learners, ensuring the continuation of education despite challenges posed by limited resources.
