Manila: Education Secretary Sonny Angara expressed gratitude towards President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) for their support in hiring 16,000 additional teachers for public schools. This initiative aligns with the administration's objective to enhance education quality and reduce the workload of public school educators.
According to Philippines News Agency, the newly created positions aim to address the demand for specialized and subject-specific teachers from Kindergarten to Senior High School. This move is expected to improve the teacher-student ratio and optimize class sizes, thereby enhancing learning outcomes. The deployment of these new hires is anticipated by the beginning of the school year, with a plan to fill all 16,000 positions by the end of the third quarter.
The Department of Education (DepEd) had initially requested the recruitment and deployment of 80 percent of the 20,000 teaching positions authorized under the 2025 General Appropriations Act (GAA) from the DBM. Secretary Angara acknowledged the swift action taken by Secretary Amenah Pangandaman and the DBM, which ensures the readiness of schools to accommodate the additional teachers before classes commence.
In addition to the teaching positions, the DBM has also started issuing the Notices of Organization, Staffing, and Compensation Action (NOSCAs) for 10,000 Administrative Officer II roles. These roles are intended to alleviate the non-teaching responsibilities of public school teachers. To prevent delays in the hiring process, the DepEd will oversee compliance and monitor the hiring pace across different regions. All Schools Division Offices (SDOs) have been instructed to begin the publication, hiring, and appointment process upon receiving their respective NOSCAs from DBM regional offices.
