Manila: The Department of Education (DepEd) announced on Friday that it has successfully delivered smart televisions and laptops to public schools across the country in preparation for the official start of classes on June 16. This initiative is part of DepEd's commitment to enhancing learning delivery outcomes for students, aligned with the directives of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
According to Philippines News Agency, DepEd has intensified its Early Procurement Activities (EPA) to ensure that essential educational tools reach schools promptly. DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara emphasized the significance of this delivery, noting that the arrival of these items in schools signifies genuine progress. "The learning becomes more revitalized, we are reaching children even more, and it's more encouraging for our teachers," Angara stated.
Currently, DepEd has procured 33,539 laptops for teachers and 5,360 for non-teaching staff under its Computerization Program. In Metro Manila alone, approximately 1,340 laptops are scheduled for distribution across 268 public schools from June 16 to 26. Additionally, the department has acquired nearly 26,000 smart TV packages with external hard drives.
Central Visayas is set to receive 2,300 smart TV packages, while ongoing procurement efforts will continue for the Zamboanga Peninsula and Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR). Regarding textbook distribution, procurement for Grades 1, 4, and 7 books has reached a 99 percent completion rate. Books for Grades 2, 5, and 8 are nearing the halfway mark, with plans to begin procurement for the remaining grade levels next year, as stated by DepEd.
