DepEd Region 8 Fetes Leyte Students’ Win on 1st Day of 2025 Palaro

Ilocos Norte: The Department of Education (DepEd) in Eastern Visayas celebrates the achievement of athletes from the region who earned gold and bronze medals during the opening day of the 2025 Palarong Pambansa in Ilocos Norte Monday.

According to Philippines News Agency, the DepEd regional office congratulated Chrishia Mae Tajarros, a Grade 8 student of Tanauan National High School in Leyte, for clinching the gold medal in the 3000-meter run. She earned the first gold medal awarded in this year's national sports event.

The region's second gold medal was clinched by Efosa John Paul Aguinaldo in the long jump event. Aguinaldo is a Grade 11 student at Hindang Stand Alone Senior High School in Hindang, Leyte. A bronze medal was secured by Jecel Vivas, a Grade 12 student of Tanauan National High School, in the 100-meter hurdles.

'Coming from our historic 7th place finish in the 2024 Palarong Pambansa, the highest rank Eastern Visayas has ever achieved, we enter this year's competition with a renewed sense of purpose. We are determined not just to maintain that position but to push even further, building on the momentum of last year's success,' the DepEd regional office added.

In the 2024 Palarong Pambansa held in Cebu City, Eastern Visayas delegates accumulated a total of 54 medals --18 gold, 14 silver, and 22 bronze-- the highest total number of medals the region had won since.
