DFA Names Ex-Consul General Angelica Escalona as New Spokesperson

Manila: Angelica Escalona, the country's former consul general in Toronto, Canada, has been appointed as the new spokesperson for the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA). Escalona, a seasoned career diplomat since 1996, takes over from former Spokesperson Ma. Teresita Daza.

According to Philippines News Agency, Foreign Affairs Secretary Ma. Theresa Lazaro introduced Escalona to the international and local press covering foreign affairs on August 1. Escalona assured that, alongside the secretary, DFA officials, and the Office of Public Diplomacy, they are committed to providing timely, accurate, and clear information.

Escalona has an extensive background, having served in multiple capacities within the DFA. She has been the Executive Director of the Office of Consular Affairs and Director of the Offices handling the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, as well as European, Asian, and American Affairs.

Her overseas experience includes representing the Philippines in Indonesia, Japan, the United States, and most recently, Canada, where she served as Consul General in Toronto from 2023 to 2025. Her work has earned her honors such as the Gawad Mabini - Dakilang Kasugo and recognitions from the Indonesian government.

Escalona holds a Master's degree in Foreign Affairs and Trade from Monash University in Australia and a Bachelor's degree in International Relations from Tsukuba University in Japan.
