DFA Refutes China’s Claim of ‘Worsening’ Security in PH

Manila: The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Monday rejected China's latest travel advisory cautioning its nationals against "worsening" public security in the Philippines. In a statement, DFA spokesperson Angelica Escalona said the travel warning, issued by the Chinese Embassy in Manila on Sunday night, misrepresents the actual situation on the ground.

According to Philippines News Agency, Escalona stated that the travel advisories from China mischaracterize the situation in the Philippines. She emphasized that instances of crimes reported or known to law enforcement authorities, including those involving Chinese nationals, are being addressed by relevant law enforcement authorities.

In a message on X, the Chinese Embassy warned of increasing crimes in the Philippines, particularly those targeting Chinese nationals. The embassy advised Chinese citizens to monitor local security, exercise caution, and avoid high-risk areas to ensure their safety. It also recommended that Chinese nationals planning to visit the Philippines conduct a careful risk assessment before traveling.

Escalona reiterated the Philippine government's commitment to working with China. She mentioned the recently concluded 9th Philippines-China Joint Consular Consultation Meeting, where both sides discussed concerns and measures to deepen law enforcement cooperation.

"The Philippine Government has been engaging with relevant stakeholders on these cases. The Philippines remains committed to constructively addressing matters of mutual concern with China," Escalona said.
