Manila: The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) stated that it is closely monitoring the situation of approximately 800 Filipinos residing in Iran, following recent protests in the country.

According to Philippines News Agency, the DFA confirmed that no Filipinos have been reported affected by the ongoing unrest. The department issued a statement advising members of the Filipino community to avoid unnecessary movements, particularly in crowded areas. Foreign affairs officials have also recommended that Filipinos in Tehran and other impacted regions stay informed through official channels and steer clear of areas experiencing protests or law enforcement activities.

The Philippine embassy in Tehran is actively monitoring the situation and maintaining communication with relevant authorities to ensure the safety and welfare of Filipino nationals. Meanwhile, news reports indicate that at least six people have been killed during the protests, which have been sparked by public dissatisfaction with inflation, rising food prices, and the depreciation of the Iranian rial.
