DHSUD and SHFC Revive Community Mortgage Program for 5,000 Families

Manila: The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) and the Social Housing Finance Corporation (SHFC) are ramping up efforts to implement the Community Mortgage Program (CMP) across the country. This initiative aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s directive to pursue people-centered housing initiatives.

According to Philippines News Agency, DHSUD Secretary Jose Ramon Aliling approved the proposal of SHFC President Federico Laxa to revive an initial batch of 34 on-site CMP projects that had been shelved. These projects aim to benefit around 5,000 member-beneficiaries nationwide. Aliling highlighted the importance of prioritizing high-impact and implementable CMP projects to assist beneficiaries in transforming their communities, aligning with the Marcos administration's pro-poor and inclusive housing agenda.

The revived CMP initiative will play a crucial role in accelerating the implementation of the President's flagship Expanded Pambansang Pabahay para sa Pilipino (4PH) Program. During the initial rollout of 4PH, many CMP projects were paused in favor of vertical housing developments. The selected CMP projects are being prepared for the awarding of lots by October, with potential for evolving into incremental housing schemes. This shift will enable beneficiaries to improve their homes over time, supported by government resources.

SHFC President Federico Laxa mentioned that the updated approach to CMP projects will focus on incorporating development at the sites, signaling a shift towards more sustainable and community-driven development methods. The move underscores the DHSUD and SHFC's commitment to providing responsive and inclusive housing solutions that empower communities and promote long-term urban development.
