Manila: The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) announced the successful transformation of the Pasig River, attributing this achievement to the strong political will of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos. The couple's support played a crucial role in the implementation of the Pasig Bigyang Buhay Muli (PBBM) Project by the Inter-Agency Council for the Pasig River Urban Development (IAC-PRUD).

According to Philippines News Agency, DHSUD Secretary and IAC-PRUD Chairperson Jose Rizalino Acuzar emphasized that the relentless backing of the First Couple was instrumental in the project's success. Acuzar urged the public to maintain the river's cleanliness and beauty, highlighting that everyone has a role in restoring the river's vibrancy. The creation of IAC-PRUD was facilitated by Executive Order 35, issued by President Marcos, to achieve functional and sustainable urban redevelopment of the Pasig River.

The project currently features a 1.1 km. stretch of open public space, extending from the Manila Central Post Office to the Intramuros wall and down to Fort Santiago. Acuzar pointed out the significance of having an open park that is accessible to all Filipinos, regardless of their economic status.

The PBBM Project has also established a heritage corridor, integrating cultural preservation with modern development. Phase 3 of the project, inaugurated by the First Couple on February 27, connected Plaza Mexico to Maestranza esplanade, creating an additional 2,000 square meters of open public space, enhancing the Fort Santiago riverfront.
