Manila: Batang Pinoy back-to-back champion Jana Jelena Nicole Diaz has secured her spot in the ITF J30 Manila 2 girls' singles quarterfinal. She achieved this by defeating No. 8 seed Rae Youn Kim from Korea with scores of 7-6 (2), 6-4 at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center hardcourt.
According to Philippines News Agency, Diaz, who is ranked No. 1 in the U16 and No. 3 in the U18 categories by the Philippine Tennis Association (Philta), will now face fellow Filipino player Stefi Marithe Aludo. Aludo, the No. 2 seed, advanced to the quarterfinals by overpowering Singaporean Tanisha Kantam with a score of 6-2, 6-2.
In other matches, top seed Tennielle Madis defeated Chinese player He Yuling 6-0, 6-0, and will face No. 6 seed Emma Lam Singh from Singapore. Singh advanced by overcoming Taiwanese qualifier Tzu-Yi Hsueh with scores of 7-6 (5), 6-1.
Third-seed Seojin Park of Korea beat local contender Louraine Jallorina 6-2, 6-9, while No. 4 seed Pimlaphat Lim from Thailand outlasted Taiwanese Meng Tung Chi 6-2, 1-6, 6-2. Park will go head-to-head with No. 7 seed Paweenon Nualsri from Thailand, who defeated Taiwanese Pei-Hsuan Chi 6-1, 7-6 (4). Lim is set to challenge No. 5 seed Gyuree Nam from Korea, who narrowly won against Thai Pimpisa Wongwanitkajon 6-1, 4-6, 7-5.
In the boys' division, first leg champion Aoi Ishizaki from Japan caused an upset by beating third seed Ariyaphol Leekul from Thailand 6-2, 6-1. Ishizaki is set to face fellow Japanese player Shun Monetoh, who defeated No. 8 seed Ethan Matthew Koh from Singapore 6-2, 7-6 (5). Ishizaki previously bested Monetoh 7-5, 6-2 in the final last Sunday.
Top-ranked Gyeom Do from Korea won against local player Kenzo Marcus Brodeth 7-5, 6-7 (5), 6-1. No. 2 seed Ruochen Gao from China also advanced by defeating Taiwanese Ziche Chen 6-3, 6-2. They are joined in the quarterfinals by No. 4 seed Napat Pattanalertphan from Thailand, and Japanese players No. 5 seed Kango Edoh, No. 6 seed Kuranosuke Suzuki, and Lyoma Hotelier.
