Bacolod: Officials from the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) have pledged to expedite the delivery of digital services to remote and disaster-affected communities in Negros Occidental. This commitment was highlighted during a press conference where DICT Undersecretary for Special Concerns Christina Faye De Sagon emphasized President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s directive to accelerate digital transformation and ensure that no Filipino is left offline.

According to Philippines News Agency, De Sagon, along with DICT-Negros Island Region Director Jeff Ramil Taboso, provided updates on priority digital transformation programs in Negros Occidental and the region. They emphasized the DICT's role in enhancing connectivity, cybersecurity, digital governance, and digital inclusion. As part of their disaster response efforts, 19 Starlink/VSAT units have been allocated across the province to maintain communication lines, which are crucial in reducing mortality rates post-disaster.

Furthermore, the Free Public Internet Access Program has established 235 free Wi-Fi sites across 27 of the 32 municipalities and cities in Negros Occidental. Taboso reiterated the DICT's commitment to ensuring connectivity in these areas, aligning with broader government reforms to provide affordable and reliable internet access nationwide. These reforms are supported by landmark policies like the Konektadong Pinoy Act, aimed at promoting new communication technologies.

On the digital governance front, the eGovPH Super App has achieved 393,450 downloads in Negros Occidental, accounting for 14.7 percent of the population. Additionally, 15 local government units are operational under eLGU, promoting efficient public service delivery. The DICT's Technology for Education, Employment, Entrepreneurs, and Economic Development initiative continues to expand digital skills training, with numerous trainings and proficiency exams conducted across the province.
