DILG-10 Reaffirms Commitment to Gender Mainstreaming in Northern Mindanao

Northern mindanao: The Department of the Interior and Local Government in Northern Mindanao (DILG-10) reaffirmed its commitment to promoting Gender and Development (GAD) in the region on Monday. During the on-site visit for the GAD Seal Program, Debie Torres, director of DILG-10's Bureau of Local Government Supervision, stated that the goal of GAD initiatives is to promote ongoing commitment and collaboration among DILG offices in advancing gender equality and establishing inclusive governance practices. "The GAD Seal is not just a recognition, but a call to sustain and strengthen efforts to ensure that no one is left behind," she said.

According to Philippines News Agency, the GAD Seal Certification Program, institutionalized through Department Order No. 2023-237 and Resolution No. 03, series of 2022, is one of the agency's key mechanisms for strengthening gender mainstreaming across all DILG offices. DILG-10 Assistant Director Yvette Sunga emphasized that the regional office views the GAD Seal validation as more than an assessment; it's an opportunity to learn, strengthen compliance, and enhance gender-responsive programs.

Meanwhile, the DILG-10 GAD Focal Point System Executive Committee and Technical Working Group highlighted the region's achievements and initiatives promoting gender equality and employee welfare, supporting the department's goal of inclusive governance. These initiatives include maintaining dormitories, shuttle services, medical and wellness programs, the Annual Parangal, Mini-Forest Greenery Project, and creating covered walkways and safe spaces that promote a gender-sensitive, employee-friendly environment.
