Surigao: Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vince Dizon has expressed disappointment over the unfinished infrastructure projects in two towns in the province of Surigao del Norte. During an inspection on Tuesday, the DPWH chief was frustrated to see the unfinished Maasin and Asinan bridges in the municipality of Pilar. Both structures began construction in 2021 and were declared complete in 2022. Dizon was also disappointed when he saw that the flood control project in Barangay Tuburan in Del Carmen town was still under construction.

According to Philippines News Agency, a report indicated that the project was at a 95 percent completion rate, but it was learned that only 35 percent of the work had been done. "What is the reason? Wag ninyo akong lolokohin (Don't fool me). Bakit walang nagtatrabaho dito? (Why is no one working here)," he asked the local DPWH officials, who were with him during the inspection.

At the same time, Dizon directed the officials of the department in the province to expedite the completion of the projects. He also ordered an investigation into the cause of the delay in the infrastructure and the contractor working on the project, who is allegedly connected to Surigao del Norte 1st District Rep. Francisco 'Bingo' Matugas. The inspection was conducted in accordance with the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to inspect and find out the condition of infrastructure projects throughout the country.
