Pasig city: Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon and Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto convened on Wednesday to address right-of-way (ROW) issues that have been delaying the construction of the Ortigas Station for the Metro Manila Subway Project (MMSP).
According to Philippines News Agency, the meeting followed an inspection of the Ortigas Station site, where Dizon emphasized that resolving the ROW issues is crucial to fulfilling President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s mandate to complete major transportation projects. Dizon, accompanied by Sotto during the inspection, expressed optimism about commencing construction soon, stating, "Ngayon nagsama-sama kami dito para maghanap ng solusyon. Hopefully, after a few weeks, we will finally start construction."
Mayor Sotto expressed gratitude towards the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and committed the city government's support to expedite the project. "Kami sa Pasig LGU, inaabangan na rin namin 'yung subway, kaya gagawin din namin ang makakaya namin para makatulong. Nakikita namin umaandar na lahat, at 'yung mga natitirang problema naaayos na," he said, highlighting the local government's eagerness and readiness to assist.
Previously, on July 17, Dizon instructed the MMSP's contractors to speed up the construction of the PHP488.5-billion subway project. The project aims to enhance the commute for hundreds of thousands of passengers in Metro Manila. Upon completion, the 37-kilometer, 17-station subway line is expected to reduce travel time between Quezon City and the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Pasay City from one hour and 10 minutes to just 45 minutes.
