Ulsan: Intending to check on its Filipino workers and reinforce cooperation, Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac on Thursday visited Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) in Ulsan, South Korea, and met with its top officials. In a news release Friday, Cacdac said the visit also aims to create more quality employment opportunities for Filipino skilled workers while ensuring their welfare and protection.
According to Philippines News Agency, 'Magandang pagtatagpo po sa shipyard ng Hyundai Heavy Industries sa Ulsan, South Korea. May nakadaop-palad po tayo na 70 OFW welders doon. Ang Hyundai Heavy Industries din ang may investment sa shipbuilding na inilunsad ni Pangulong Marcos Jr. noong Setyembre (It was a great meeting at the Hyundai Heavy Industries shipyard in Ulsan, South Korea. We were fortunate to have 70 OFW welders there),' Cacdac said. In September, HHI made a significant investment in a shipbuilding project launched by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., which helped strengthen the Philippines-South Korea partnership in maritime development and skilled labor cooperation.
During the visit, Cacdac had the chance to talk with the workers who work as welders, electricians, and other skilled trades at HHI's shipyard, and check on their working conditions. He also discussed programs with the HHI management to ensure that their rights and safety are upheld.
'Ang pakikipagpulong na ito ay isang mahalagang hakbang tungo sa mas matibay na ugnayan sa pagitan ng DMW, HHI, at ating mga manggagawang Pilipino, bilang bahagi ng ating layunin na isulong ang produktibong migrasyon at mapabuti ang kalidad ng buhay ng ating mga OFWs at kanilang pamilya (This meeting is an important step towards a stronger relationship between DMW, HHI, and our Filipino workers, as part of our goal to promote productive migration and improve the quality of life of our OFWs and their families),' Cacdac said. He said the DMW wants to make sure that Filipino workers are not only valued for their skills but are treated with fairness and respect.
He said the collaboration with HHI reflects the shared vision for productive and protected migration. Cacdac was accompanied by Labor Attach© and Migrant Workers Office (MWO) Seoul Head Rosemarie Duquez and other MWO personnel. He was received by HHI executives, including Senior Vice President Jungil Kim, Senior Executive Vice President Yong-yeol Park of the Naval Business Unit, and Sang-won Shin, Executive in Charge of the Co-Prosperity Business Office.
