DMW Promises Comprehensive Support for Family of Child Killed in NAIA Accident

Manila: Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac has committed full government support to the family of a four-year-old girl who tragically died in a vehicular accident at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1. The child, Malia, was the daughter of an overseas Filipino worker (OFW), Danmark Soriano Masongsong. The accident occurred on May 4 as Masongsong was preparing to return to his job in the Czech Republic after a family vacation in the Philippines.

According to Philippines News Agency, Cacdac expressed his condolences in a television interview and confirmed the government's ongoing support for the family. Cacdac mentioned, "I was there at the wake last night and we had a good conversation about the assistance we could provide further. The president had given instructions to provide full assistance to Danmark and the family." Since the incident, various forms of support, including psychosocial and spiritual counseling, have been extended to the family.

Masongsong, who works as an assembly line operator, had not seen his daughter for three years before this visit. He shared his grief in a media interview, expressing his profound love for Malia and his quest for justice. Additionally, his wife remains in critical condition in the hospital, unaware of their child's demise. The OFW's mother, also injured, is unable to walk due to leg injuries, while a seven-year-old niece, though released from the hospital, is still under observation for head injuries.

Cacdac assured continuous support from DMW teams, nurses, and social workers to monitor the family's situation. Furthermore, Ramon Ang, president of New NAIA Infrastructure Corp., has covered hospital and funeral expenses and pledged additional financial aid. The DMW has also coordinated with Masongsong's employer to ensure he receives condolences and support for his potential return to work.

While Masongsong has no immediate plans to return abroad, Cacdac emphasized the family's need for time to heal. The DMW is also actively following the investigation into the accident to ensure justice is served. "We are monitoring the case, the current police investigation, and possible cases to be filed in court," Cacdac stated, reaffirming the government's dedication to the family's cause.
