DND Chief Calls for Continued Upgrade of 250th Presidential Airlift Wing

Pasay city: Noting its vital role in transporting the president of the Philippines and other important persons, Department of National Defense (DND) Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. called for the continued modernization and upgrade of the 250th Presidential Airlift Wing (PAW). A DND statement on Friday said Teodoro made the call during the celebration of the 250th PAW's 57th founding anniversary at the Villamor Air Base in Pasay City where he was guest of honor.

According to Philippines News Agency, Teodoro emphasized the importance of the 250th PAW as not just a transport unit but a crucial component for command and control, ensuring that the executive functions of the government remain uninterrupted. He highlighted the need for adaptation and modernization in response to global security developments, advocating for investments in capabilities to secure safe, electronic warfare-proof, and fully connected airlift support for the commander-in-chief.

Teodoro stressed the 250th PAW's significant role in maintaining command and control continuity during emergencies, crises, and national security contingencies. He commended all personnel of the 250th PAW for their role in ensuring the safety, security, and mobility of the President. Additionally, he conveyed President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr.'s appreciation to the 250th PAW's officers, enlisted personnel, and civilian workforce for their consistent service in safeguarding the President.

"The President, by the way, sends you his best wishes and his thanks for catering to his needs and security. And for keeping him safe and in one piece -- for three years now," the DND chief said. "We hope that you will continue to do so for all the presidents that you will serve."
