Manila: Department of National Defense (DND) Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. announced plans to acquire over 500 fighting vehicles to enhance the mobility and protection of the Philippine military forces. This effort is part of ongoing initiatives to improve the capabilities of ground troops.
According to Philippines News Agency, Secretary Teodoro discussed in a recent interview on Radyo Pilipinas that the ground troops require swift reaction capabilities and comprehensive protection, both for themselves and their vehicles. The initiative to purchase "500 plus fighting vehicles" aims to ensure the safety and effectiveness of military personnel.
The fighting vehicles mentioned by Teodoro are identified as "infantry fighting vehicles." These armored vehicles are intended to transport infantry into combat zones while providing direct fire support. Although specific details were not disclosed due to security considerations, Teodoro emphasized that with the acquisition of these platforms, the need for troops to walk or march extensively would be significantly reduced.
He also highlighted the strategic importance of these vehicles, noting their potential deterrent effect and their ability to enable immediate responses to threats.
