DOE Advocates Increase in Public-Private Partnerships for Renewable Energy Development

Manila: An official from the Department of Energy (DOE) emphasized the necessity for increased public-private partnerships to achieve the government's target of raising the share of renewable energy (RE) in the nation's energy mix to 35 percent by 2030.

According to Philippines News Agency, this statement followed Energy Assistant Secretary Mylene Capongcol's participation in the commissioning of the Samal Solar Renewable Energy Corporation's Samal Solar Renewable Energy Project. The DOE announced that the newly commissioned Samal Solar RE plant is now contributing 41.92 megawatts (MW) of clean energy to the Luzon grid.

Capongcol remarked on the significance of the project, stating, "This Solar Project is a testament to the transformative power of renewable energy. It not only provides clean power but also fuels local development through employment and capacity building. This is the kind of sustainable, inclusive progress we are working to achieve nationwide."

DOE data indicates that as of the end of April, there are 1,392 active renewable energy contracts in the country, with a combined installed capacity of 7.05 gigawatts.
