DOH Cautions Public Against Ashfall Effects Amid Kanlaon Eruption

Manila: The Department of Health (DOH) on Tuesday warned residents in Negros Island near the Kanlaon Volcano against the adverse effects of ashfall on their health: The DOH has issued a public advisory to caution residents about the health risks posed by volcanic ash following the recent eruption of Kanlaon Volcano.

According to Philippines News Agency, the DOH defined volcanic ash as fine and "very small" particles that could enter the lungs, posing health risks. The advisory highlighted that certain communities near the volcano have already been affected by the ashfall, as noted by DOST-Phivolcs (Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology).

Residents in the impacted areas are strongly advised to wear N95 face masks, safety goggles, and protective clothing such as long sleeves and pants. These measures are recommended to protect their respiratory systems, eyes, and skin from the fine ash particles.

The DOH also urged people in these areas to seek immediate medical attention if needed and assured them that their emergency team is ready to respond to healthcare needs.
