Manila: The Department of Health (DOH) announced on Thursday that a total of 28 fireworks-related injuries were reported from December 21 until 4 a.m. on December 25, 2025, according to surveillance data from 62 sentinel hospitals across the country.

According to Philippines News Agency, the latest bulletin from the DOH indicates an increase of eight cases compared to the cumulative count from the previous day. Among the victims, 68 percent are aged 19 years and below, while the remaining 32 percent are adults aged 20 and above.

The data reveals a significant 50 percent decrease in injuries this year compared to the 56 cases recorded during the same period in 2024. The injuries were primarily caused by 5-star, boga, and triangle firecrackers, which have historically resulted in severe accidents during the holiday festivities.

The public is advised to refrain from using firecrackers and to consider safer alternatives for New Year celebrations. Immediate medical consultation is recommended for any injuries resulting from pyrotechnics. The DOH also urges individuals to contact the National Emergency Hotline 911 for urgent medical assistance in severe cases of fireworks-related injuries.
