DOJ: No Queue in Chasing High-Profile Fugitives

Manila: The Department of Justice (DOJ) on Monday announced that there is no priority list or deadline for the arrest of high-profile fugitives.

According to Philippines News Agency, DOJ spokesperson Mico Clavano stated in an interview with reporters that there are no "queuing numbers" when it comes to capturing these fugitives. "Whoever will be caught, will be caught. We are not targeting any date or any particular person," Clavano explained. The focus is on searching for all fugitives simultaneously and gathering intelligence on them.

Clavano highlighted that while authorities continuously receive information on high-profile suspects, the DOJ is committed to pursuing all fugitives. He emphasized that although the cases involving high-profile fugitives have reached national significance, the DOJ is not limiting its efforts to them alone.

Among the high-profile fugitives currently sought by authorities is former Bureau of Corrections head Gerald Bantag, who is implicated in the 2022 killing of journalist Percy Lapid. The Netherlands government has also been informed of pending human trafficking charges against former presidential spokesperson Harry Roque.

Furthermore, Clavano reiterated the DOJ's support for the Philippine National Police's efforts to combat crime and assured that prosecutors will ensure legal procedures are followed meticulously during the anti-crime drive.
