DOJ Secures New Witness in Missing ‘Sabungeros’ Investigation

Manila: A new witness in the missing 'sabungeros' (cockfight aficionados) case has been secured by investigators, Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla announced. This development comes amid ongoing efforts to resolve the high-profile case.

According to Philippines News Agency, Remulla highlighted the importance of the new witness, stating that it supports the credibility of whistleblower Julie Patidongan, known as Totoy. Investigators previously faced challenges in identifying a key individual, but the new witness has now provided clarity on this issue. The witness promises to offer not only testimonial evidence but also tangible evidence that has yet to be shared with the media.

Remulla also mentioned requesting the Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III to relieve one of the commanders involved in the investigation. Although Remulla did not disclose the name of the police official, he expressed discomfort with the individual's conduct during the investigation process, which he believes was hindering the case's resolution.

Moreover, Remulla confirmed that the operations to recover human remains in Taal Lake have resumed after a temporary suspension due to bad weather. The search efforts are part of the broader investigation into the missing 'sabungeros' case.
