DOLE Allocates PHP89.2 Million for Temporary Jobs to Support Storm-Affected Families in Caraga

Caraga: The Department of Labor and Employment in Caraga (DOLE-13) has announced an allocation of PHP89.2 million aimed at providing temporary jobs to over 15,800 families impacted by Tropical Storm Basyang in the region. The initiative is part of the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged Workers (TUPAD) program, which is designed to offer short-term employment to residents who have been displaced or are vulnerable.

According to Philippines News Agency, the program will benefit families across several provinces, with 2,805 beneficiaries in Agusan del Norte, 2,080 in Agusan del Sur, 4,051 in Surigao del Sur, 4,457 in Surigao del Norte, and 2,431 in Dinagat Islands. Orientations have already begun in Agusan del Norte, and beneficiaries have commenced community work under TUPAD. The activities are expected to conclude by March 21.

Agusan del Norte has received PHP21 million in funding, which covers families in various areas including Kitcharao, Tubay, Cabadbaran City, and several other municipalities. The validation process for beneficiaries in other provinces is ongoing, and subsequent orientations and employment activities will take place upon completion.

Tropical Storm Basyang, which struck on February 5, caused significant damage with heavy rains and strong winds leading to floods and landslides. The TUPAD program not only aims to provide immediate financial support but also seeks to accelerate recovery efforts by engaging residents in the restoration and rehabilitation of their communities.
