DOLE and PHILJA Forge Partnership to Enhance Labor Justice Education

Tagaytay City:The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the Philippine Judicial Academy (PHILJA) have entered into a significant partnership aimed at strengthening labor justice services in the Philippines. On Wednesday, officials from both organizations signed a memorandum of understanding to establish a comprehensive framework for professional education and capacity-building at the newly established National Academy of Labor Justice (NALJ).

According to Philippines News Agency, this agreement involves a collaboration where PHILJA, serving as the training arm of the Supreme Court of the Philippines, will provide technical, academic, and advisory support to DOLE. This includes the development of the NALJ's curriculum, organizational framework, and training programs.

The partnership will encompass various initiatives such as faculty development, preparation of educational resources, research, and the conduct of seminars and workshops. Established under DOLE Department Order No. 257, series of 2026, the NALJ aims to serve as the department's exclusive institution for the professional development of labor justice practitioners.

DOLE Secretary Francis Tolentino emphasized the importance of workers' rights, stating that achieving middle-income status as a nation means little if the workers remain poor and denied access to justice. The NALJ is expected to enhance the capabilities of labor justice practitioners, including commissioners, arbiters, and legal officers, to ensure fair resolution of labor disputes.

DOLE will oversee the implementation and management of the NALJ, while PHILJA will contribute its expertise in judicial education and curriculum development. The Institute for Labor Studies will coordinate the implementation of the agreement.

The memorandum of understanding will be effective for five years, supporting continuous cooperation to advance labor justice education. This collaboration aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s directive to bolster government institutions and improve public service delivery, ensuring the protection of workers' rights through efficient labor justice mechanisms.
